Master Bedroom Spring Refresh

Writer's picture: Christina HollensbeChristina Hollensbe

I’m kicking off my spring decorating early this year, because I am sooooo over Winter and ready to throw open the windows. Anyone else with me? Even though we haven’t seen Mr. Sun in months, I couldn’t hold off any longer. In fact, I’ve been sprucing things up for Spring for weeks now. So, to honor the season, I’m sharing some simple master bedroom decorating tips.

Updating your bedroom each season really doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Anyone who knows me well, knows I like expediency, simplicity and of course to do things without spending a lot of money.

Although I did purchase some new bedding, I am keeping things very simple this Spring. I typically like to have two sets of comforters (so you can have one readily available while the other is in the wash or at the cleaners).

I like to wash my bedding weekly. I’ve had our current comforters for several years now. One of them is starting to look dingy and the other is starting to tear soooo, it was the perfect time to purchase a new comforter.😉

I just love it! It’s a crisp and tailored white duvet set, with a soft and elegant french blue border. Anyone who knows me well, also knows how much I love to use blue in our coastal home (I guess because it reminds me of the beautiful blue hues of the ocean). Although I’m typically a sucker for more of a jewel toned sapphire blue, I’ve amped it up with a vibrant dose of light blue to brighten things up for Spring.

I didn’t spend much at all in here, everything else you see, I already owned except for my beautiful new gold lamps that I purchased at Home Goods (I’ve been crushing so much on brass and gold lately!). Although I researched FOREVER for the perfect gold lamp, I just couldn’t find anything I loved. Most were brassy brown or if they were a true gold, I didn’t like the design.

Truth be told, I loved these lamps when I purchased them but when I brought them home and put them against my gray furniture, they just still weren’t bright enough....soooo....I busted out the spray can. Yep, I took a chance and sprayed my BRAND NEW LAMPS and so glad I did! And let me tell ya, I researched and researched the type of gold I wanted to use (do you realize how many different shades of gold are out there?! ALOT!). It’s still difficult to get a feel for how your item will turn out. Sure, that color looks great on that small paint can top...but will it look good with your large lamps and decor? I decided to take a chance and went BOLD with my color choice and so glad I did!

It really brightens up the space and brings out the blue hues of our bedroom. I might've lost sleep over this one. But in the end, I think it turned out great and I just love the sleek look of my new lamps.🙂

I also love the contrast between blues and brass. Brass is another nod to our coastal home. Brass is an alloy that’s routinely used for a variety of nautical applications—like clocks, barometers, and cabin fittings—and it can develop a beautiful greenish-blue surface patina (although currently I am crushing on that shiny brass...”my preciiiiooouuuus”😍).

Let’s talk floral. I used to DETEST faux florals but floral makers have really stepped up their game. In fact, it’s sometimes difficult to tell the fake ones from the real thing! Although I will still purchase fresh flowers (because I like variety and the smell of fresh cut flowers), faux flowers obviously last a long time and can be used again and again in every room of the house.

Like these faux blue hydrangeas. I love these so much and love how cheerful they feel in here. They’re going to be on prominent display all over our home this Spring – so keep your eye open for the rest of my Spring content coming soon! In the mean time, you can keep reading for my master bedroom decorating tips that I’ve incorporated in here for Spring.

I’ve had white bedding as a base in our bedroom for several years now. I like that it’s neutral and creates the perfect backdrop for adding layers and colors...change up the pillows and accessories and WHALA! You have a new bedroom perfect for the season.

Speaking of pillows, I love these blue floral chinoiserie inspired bed pillows. As mentioned earlier, blue and brass just look beautiful together!

I don’t worry too much about making sure my bedding is “matchy matchy”. When most of your bedding is neutral or within the same color scheme, anything goes!

As you you probably know by now, blue happens to be one of my favorite colors and as you can see, it has most definitely become a staple in my decor in our coastal home.

I am also crushing on all things “fawn” patterned. (Some of you may remember the fawn/antelope rug I used for my office nook). When I saw this furry blanket for a STEAL, I had to have it. I know some of you may be thinking this is too “heavy” for Spring but I prefer comfort over "rules" so when it comes to cozying up, I break the rules because I like my furry blankets (and my furry pet ;) ).

I hope you have enjoyed my quick master bedroom decorating tour! Thank you as always for reading – you know how much it means to me to have you here.
