This month marks the beginning of year TWO in our beloved coastal home. Spring is on its way and it’s seriously time to do a "patio refresh"!
Some of you may be looking for some Spring inspiration, some may already subscribe to my blog (thank you!), or some may be looking for motivation for a patio refresh. However you found your way to my blog, I just wanna say, “WELCOME”!
As mentioned earlier, we moved into our home about two years ago and started the process of a home makeover. It was built in the late 90s so it needs a bit of TLC. But we are enjoying the process of making it our own. We’ve primarily been focusing on landscaping the front yard and painting our 3-story deck (which has been a HUGE undertaking). There is still much work to be done so it’s taking us a little while to get everything just how we want it. BUT we don't have to wait until everything is "perfect" to enjoy it. I'm sooooo ready for Spring so wanted to have some fun with our outdoor patio deck. This blog is loaded with pics (sorry in advance) so grab a cup of joe and let’s get started!
Truth be told, when it came to color, I used to be just a “neutral” girl but moving to the island has changed that for me. With inspiration from the deep blue sea, pink spoonbills (and flamingos), and green palm trees; I’m slowly incorporating more and more color into my life and I’m loving it! Although it’s still a work in progress, I thought today would be the perfect day to show you around our newly refreshed outdoor living space.
We really have 3 different zones in our outdoor living space - an open lounging area, a dining area under our pergola, and a covered patio area. I cringe at the thought of showing you the “before” but hey, this is what I call “real life”. ;). Our Winter season consisted of lots of wind and rain so that meant the patio had been neglected for a while. Here is the “before” pic of our lounging area...
See what I mean? And YES, I know, that dead plant gots to go. And I didn't even bother straightening those pillows because it’s been so windy lately that within seconds, they are face down again. I mean, it can be a full time job trying to fight this tropical wind!
But I do have to say, after this refresh, I think the lounging area is my new favorite space- I love all the tropical plants and bright colors. I really enjoy sitting out here no matter the weather, but it's especially nice on cool mornings and evenings.
If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that I found this awesome vintage bamboo table about a week ago. I love it because the original owner brought it all the way from Japan and I found it at my local antique shop (the antique dealer nabbed it at an estate sale). I took a chance and spray painted it using Krylon’s Regal Blue and it fits perfectly into my coastal home..like it was brought all the way from Japan just for me. It was meant to be.☺️
(Nevermind that plant, it has plans to make a comeback). I plan to get a custom glass top made for added protection, but this will work for now. Do you like the blue?
I also had a lot of fun painting these diy flower pots. I just used some tape and the same Krylon Regal Blue I used for my bamboo table to make the stripes. (Aren’t the stripes fun??)
My main purchases for this space were the pillows, the yucca plants, and the thrifted bamboo table. Everything else I already had and shopped my home for. I like moving things around. It keeps things...well, fresh!
Moving on to the covered patio. I have some ideas up my sleeve for this space but for now, I kept it pretty simple here. The large rug that was previously here is now in the lounging area.
I also like to enjoy our view from inside the house so I kept it simple so to not distract from our picturesque coastal view.
We also have visitors daily (enter white egrets and blue cranes), they seem to enjoy visiting our patio just as much as we do and they certainly bring life and colorful decor to our space. ;)
Moving on, this little patio is right off my master bedroom. I just love this pink wicker elephant! It was an estate sale find that was originally white but I wiped off all the dust and went BOLD with this fuchsia pink color.
And I just love that fern plant in the corner (NOTE: As soon as hurricane season is over, those ugly brown hurricane shutters will be removed and painted. But honestly, they have been a God send). I painted the chippendale planter as well. I got it on sale at AT HOME but there was only one (enter sad face here) so I will be on the hunt for it’s twin. (That's my bedroom you see peeking though the window).
On the top level, the pergola is another great space we enjoy...
And I just love setting the table for when we have company. I kept it simple here but look at those lemon branches, cherry blossoms, and flamingo glasses (aren't they adorable??)
Makes me wanna JUMP right into Spring! And speaking of lemon branches...those small blossoming trees in pots you see in the background are Meyer Lemon Trees. Seeing my Meyer lemon trees blooming this year is an additional sweet treat.
I’m contemplating on repainting the pergola white (that brown is just too dark for me). And it still needs a few touches like a rug and some lighting...but it doesn’t take away from the beautiful sunsets we get to enjoy while dining.
As you can see, not everything in my patio is “matchy matchy”. I used different textures and styles but kept the same color scheme for a more cohesive look throughout our outdoor living space so it works!
Although our outdoor patio deck is still a work in progress, we’ve already been enjoying the space well. The hubs loves to throw a line in to fish and I enjoy watching the array of fish above the green lights in the evenings (it’s like having my own aquarium!).
I can’t wait to host several gatherings of neighbors and friends as we are out here daily. It has taken us a while but it has been and will be worth every investment we've made into our home.
Hope you’ve enjoyed this tour of my Spring Patio Refresh and that you feel inspired for your own patio refresh for Spring! Night Night...

Thanks Andrea! I’m definitely enjoying adding more color to my decor this season. :)
I love the bright pops of pink in the flowers and the elephant stand. Goes well with the blue and cream stripes. Pretty!
